When it comes to high end versus low end makeup it can be difficult to know when to splurge as opposed to when to save. When it comes to makeup there are literally thousands of products available on the market. With hundreds of choices available for everything from foundation, to eyeliner, to eye shadow, it can be confusing to decide when it’s better to spend $100 or $5 on a certain product. That’s why we thought it would be great to let you in on some secrets to decide when it’s best to splurge and when it’s best to save.

1) Foundation

Foundation is one of those products we always recommend splurging on. Foundation sets the base for your entire make up look. Not only can a good foundation transform your entire face, spending money on a high quality foundation will prevent many of the negative effects that come along with wearing makeup. For example, a high quality foundation will minimize the occurrence of acne for those who have acne prone skin. It will also minimize the onset of fine lines and wrinkles which often occur from using low end foundations frequently. We highly recommend going to a makeup specialist at any major makeup store and asking them for help with picking your foundation. They’ll help you choose from the many high quality options that are available on the market.

2) Lipsticks

Lipsticks are definitely an item you can save on. Lipsticks come in many shapes and forms but ultimately you’re not likely to find much variance between the drug store and high end variety. Brands like Maybelline and Laureal make fantastic lipsticks that cost less than $10! Next time you’re tempted to splurge on Nars or Tom Ford try going to Target instead and looking through the options there!

3) Eye shadow

When it comes to eye shadow we highly recommend mixing and matching high end and low end products. The Naked Palette is the most high quality eye shadow available on the market. You’re unlikely to find similar quality in drug store products but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use them! If you look carefully you can find great eye shadows that are slightly lower quality but still do the trick.
